Be Our Guest: Raymour & Flanigan and King Koil’s Tips for Welcoming Holiday Guests
The holiday season is in full swing and schedules are filling up fast with holiday sweater parties and Secret Santa gift exchanges. Amid all the cheer, you may also be preparing to host guests in your home. For this post, King Koil has teamed up with one of our retail partners,Raymour & Flanigan, to bring you tips for getting your home holiday ready. Follow our guide and we’ll help you create the perfect holiday home whether you’re hosting neighbors for cocktails, or extended family for an overnight stay!
1. Declutter Your Space
The first step in getting your home holiday ready is to declutter your space. Take a day in the week or two before guests arrive to clear out any clutter that has accumulated in any gathering spaces. Comb through through your foyer, living room, dining room and kitchen, and make sure everything has a place. Consider donating any items you no longer need to a local shelter or other community organization. The holidays can be a great time to donate to families in your community who may be in need.
For items that require only a short disappearing act, trunks and storage ottomans can be a useful way to disguise items in plain site. Alternatively, storage bins, closet, basement or garage spaces will often do the trick until you decide to pack away your holiday decor once again.

2. Create a Welcoming Entryway
The entryway is the first thing guests will see when they arrive, and it provides an opportunity to make a great first impression. Put out an extra shoe rack, or make space in your closet to accommodate for the extra shoes and coats. If you have the space, consider adding a small bench to allow guests to sit and remove their boots when they come in.
Create a warm welcoming by dressing up your traditional decor with some holiday touches. A festive area rug can add color to your entryway, and also protects your floors from wet shoes if you live in a colder climate. Add plants like poinsettias to a holiday table and incorporate lights and tinsel to dazzle your guests as soon as they walk in the door.

3. Dazzle Your Dining Room and Living Room
Getting ready to host a holiday dinner or entertain extended family can provide the perfect opportunity to update your living space with new furniture and accent pieces. If you have limited dining space, consider a new dining room table with leaves to allow for expansion when you are setting the table for holiday meals.
Create warmth in your living room by adding cozy seating and accents to your space. Seasonal throw pillows and warm blankets can add a homey touch for guests during down time. If you need more seating to accommodate for the extra family and friends, consider adding ottomans, benches and other options that can easily be stowed away when not in use, and double as storage.

4. Make Your Guest Room Feel Like Home
You may also need to ready a spare bedroom for family or friends who will be enjoying an extended stay in your home. Sleeping in an unfamiliar space can make it difficult to wind down for the night. Help your guests relax by adding the comforts of home. Set out a reading light on the night stand, bring in a fan and have extra pillows and blankets on hand. Add a nightlight so guests can navigate their way around if they need to get up in the middle of the night.
It may be difficult for guests to find restful sleep in an unfamiliar bed, especially if your mattress is in need of an update. Old mattresses can experience sagging, loose springs and other issues that interrupt a good night’s rest. If the mattress in your guest room could use an update, consider upgrading to a new model. King Koil mattresses are approved by the International Chiropractors Association to help promote proper posture and spinal alignment for a healthier night’s sleep. Our selection of innerspring, speciality memory foam and hybrid mattresses provide a wide range of comfort options, sizes and styles that can fit perfectly in any space.
Finish off your guest room with soft, seasonal patterns and textures. Dress the bed with a festive comforter, and add a warm area rug to give your guest room a welcoming atmosphere that friends and family will look forward to retreating to.
We hope these tips will help you put some extra care into your holiday preparations, and create a space where you and your guests will enjoy spending your time this season!
